Berrios Responds to the Governor’s State of the State Address
April 17th, 2013
SPRINGFIELD, IL – State Rep. Maria A. “Toni” Berrios (D-Chicago) issued the following statement Wednesday in response to Governor Pat Quinn’s State of the State address:
“Today, Governor Quinn proposed ambitious programs and goals to get Illinois back on track and restore stability to its fiscal house. Since taking office, I have been committed to providing the essential services needed to my community. In concert with Governor Quinn’s goals, I will continue to work on behalf of my constituents to provide much-needed relief during these difficult times.
“Moving forward, we have tough decisions to make, but above all else, I believe we need to come together to find the solutions necessary to solve Illinois’ most pressing issues. It’s imperative that we work in unison to offer the best policy and most practical solutions so we can continue to protect our seniors, physically and mentally disabled, and our youth. I hope that we can come together to work on progressive comprehensive pension reform that protects employees’ benefits and ensures long-term fiscal solvency. Not only must we work to restore stability to our fiscal house, but we must also continue to work to provide equality for everyone, regardless of race, religion or sexual orientation. I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle in this General Assembly.”
