Berrios Presents Homegrown Business Award to City Newsstand
January 10th, 2014
CHICAGO – State Rep. Maria A. “Toni” Berrios, D-Chicago, awarded City Newsstand with the 39th District Homegrown Business of the Month Award for the month of January. City Newsstand is a small business that buys and sells local Illinois products in both their café and news store.
“It’s an honor to award the 39th District Homegrown Business of the Month Award to City Newsstand for their investment into the local economy for over 25 years,” Berrios said.
Berrios sponsored House Bill 1272, which promotes local businesses and Illinois agriculture by designating the first Saturday of every month as “Eat Local, Buy Illinois Products Day.” The ceremony took place on Saturday, Jan. 4th. City Newsstand is in the Six Corners neighborhood located at 4018 N. Cicero Ave in Chicago.
“City Newsstand has been a staple of this community for many years. I’m proud to have sponsored such legislation to recognize businesses like City Newsstand for their dedication to the community and support of the Illinois economy, ” Berrios said.
