Berrios, Community Leaders, Rally for Increasing CPS Funding through TIF
February 26th, 2014
CHICAGO – State Rep. Maria A. “Toni” Berrios, D-Chicago, gathered community leaders together to show local support for her legislation that would take money from Tax Increment Financing (TIF) and put it directly into local Chicago Public Schools. The rally was held in partnership with the Logan Square Neighborhood Association, and the Northwest Side Housing Center. The rally brought out state Rep. Greg Harris, and local parent mentor volunteer groups.
“Nothing is a higher priority for me than investing in a quality education for our children,” Berrios said. “Chicago Public Schools have recently experienced immense budget cuts on top of devastating facility closures. My legislation would allow our neighborhood schools to regain some of the recourses they desperately need by allowing them to receive surplus TIF funds. I encourage members of our community to stand up in favor of our kids’ education by signing up to show your support of my initiative online or in my district office.”
House Bill 4210 was filed by Rep. Berrios last week. To sign a petition of support, please visit Berrios’ full-time constituent service office located at 2847 N. Pulaski, or follow the link below: http://petitions.moveon.org/sign/support-our-chicago-public?source=c.em.mt&r_by=9815668
