The Board of Hispanic Caucus Chairs Select New 2013-2014 Leadership
December 18th, 2012
AUSTIN, Texas– The Board of Hispanic Caucus Chairs (BHCC) recently concluded the BHCC 7th Annual Conference in Boston, Massachusetts. The event was a three-day summit involving a wide-array of policy workshops, leadership development series and was home to the 2nd Latina State Legislative Caucus (LSLC)Summit on the first day of the convention. The conference marked one of the largest gatherings of Latino state legislative leaders to date and the event capped off the year for the organization’s 2012 activities. The conference served as a great opportunity for some of the Latino communities’ greatest state public leaders to come together to collaborate on a variety of social and policy issues affecting our nation and was, in large part, made a success by the hard work of the 2012 BHCC Conference Chair, Rep. Jeffrey Sánchez (D-MA).
The BHCC executive board was also expanded to five officer positions this year to serve over the organization going forward. Rep. Maria Antonia Berrios (D-IL) will serve as the new chair of the board, Sen. Martin Malave Dilan (D-NY) was vaulted from his previous position as treasurer to vice chair, Rep. Jeffrey Sánchez (D-MA) will serve as the organization’s treasurer, Assemblywoman Lucy Flores (D-NV) who served as the 2011 conference chair will assume the position of secretary, and Sen. Rene Garcia (R-FL) will serve as the organization’s parliamentarian. The new board will serve as the official legislative leadership for the organization and will preside over the organization in this capacity for the next two years.
The BHCC members, staff and supporters are excited for the organization’s newest leadership and look forward to the new board leading the organization for the next biennium. The perpetual growth and expanded reach of the organization will be a key theme as the newest leaders assume their positions and the organization continues to pursue positive effects in the Latino community and supports the development of Latino state legislative leaders across the country.
